This peer-reviewed review examines how Belize's agricultural extension services can promote biochar as a climate-smart agricultural (CSA) practice. It looks at why CSA matters for Belizean farmers facing climate change and reviews the main approaches extension agents use to share new practices, including farmer field schools, science field shops, and agro-meteorological services.

It also weighs the strengths of Belize's extension system (trained officers, university degree programs, and partnerships with FAO, IICA, OIRSA, and CATIE), the challenges it faces (reliance on outside funding, language and cultural barriers, and limited field equipment), and the specific benefits of biochar, from improving infertile soils and filtering wastewater to reducing pesticide and fertilizer use and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
