Fully integrated circular project to produce high-quality cattle silage and premium biochar, create local jobs, and generate foreign exchange for Belize.
BELIZE CITY, Belize - 7 July 2026 - DBG Energy today announced the development of an industrial-scale biochar production facility in the Belize River Valley. The fully integrated project grows its own forage on site, producing high-quality silage for Belize’s growing cattle industry and converting the leftover silage waste into premium biochar and verified durable carbon removal credits for global markets.
The facility is designed to process approximately 70,000 tons of biomass annually, producing nutrient-rich cattle feed alongside approximately 16,000 tons of high-quality biochar and 42,250 tons of CO₂-equivalent (tCO₂e) durable carbon removal credits. Applied as a soil amendment, biochar improves water retention, nutrient availability, and soil structure, increasing crop yields and resilience for Belize’s key agricultural industries, including sugar, citrus, and banana production, while the carbon credits open a new revenue stream from growing global demand for verified carbon removal.

The approximately US$20 million project is structured with infrastructure-grade discipline, including a conservative debt-equity mix and strong projected financial coverage. Development is advancing in 2026 through site control, financing, and regulatory preparations, followed by construction and production ramp-up targeted for 2027, with full operations and potential expansion thereafter. The facility will use proven continuous pyrolysis technology with integrated energy recovery and measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems built in from the start.
The platform is fully circular by design: forage grown on DBG’s own farm yields silage that feeds the cattle industry, silage waste becomes biochar, and the biochar returns to the fields blended with manure as a natural soil inoculant, securing reliable feedstock supply. It represents one of the first major industrial biochar initiatives in Belize, a model for circular, carbon-negative agriculture that benefits farmers, communities, and the national economy.
